Dear Friends.

I send you prayers and best wishes for a peaceful, fulfilling New Year. As I thought about a theme for this month, I happened upon an article by Susun Weed on how to prepare an herbal infusion. “Infusion.”  I immediately felt a flow of energy just from the word, began to reflect on its many levels of meaning, and it became the theme for this month. Here’s some information about Susun, and how you can access her wealth of information to support your health and well-being.  Then please enjoy the message and meditations for this month. Love to you, Donna

The dark begins to recede and the light grows.  As the cycle turns, we take a moment to honor the dark, the healing power of the womb-like, dream-like darkness that enfolds and embraces, nurtures and nourishes, the seed of returning light.

We honor the light that activates life. We honor the emergence of the light from the dark.

In this season when there is continuing stress of daily life, the return to the usual rhythm after the intensity of the holidays, with perhaps some fatigue, it is a good time to strengthen yourself, to infuse yourself with light, energy and spirit.

Infusion is a beautiful word. The word itself invokes the experience of being strengthened, of taking into yourself that which nourishes and supports you. When you open yourself intentionally to the energies of light, spirit, joy, love, you can feel yourself infused by those energies. It is as tangible drinking a cup of herbal tea or soaking in a hot and fragrant bath.

These days people become depleted easily. And when you are depleted, the strength of the immune system is lowered.

Let us take time now for an infusion of energy, a ritual for the New Year.

If you have the time and the inclination, you can prepare yourself an herbal infusion of your choice. Take time with the herbs, feel their energies as you mix them together. Honor the energies of earth, water, fire and air that go into the preparation of the infusion. The herbs grow from the earth, mix with the water, the water becomes imbued with their energy and their healing power. The fire needs air to ignite, as it ignites it warms the water, activates the mixing of the elements of earth and water.

Mix the infusion with your intentions for the New Year, your hopes and dreams, your prayers for yourself, your loved ones, and all beings. Repeat words of strength and light and wisdom as you mix it, imbue your infusion with the energy of those words.

Find a special vessel, a favorite cup, a ceramic tea bowl. Pour the infusion into that vessel, with love, with intention, the intention to care for yourself and strengthen yourself. Ask the spirits of earth and air, fire and water, to bless this infusion. Say a prayer over the cup. Hold it in your hands. Feel the warmth.

The infusion of energy has already begun, with the time of preparation, with the prayers, and now with the warmth that penetrates the hands, travels through the body. Ask for the blessing and healing of the spirits of fire, earth, water and air.

Drink it in, drink it slowly, drink it meditatively. Feel yourself infused, blessed, and strengthened. The blessing infuses every element of your being, physical, emotional and spiritual. You are strengthened. Your energy increases. You feel yourself in greater harmony and balance.

You are being infused with the strength of earth, the healing of water, the light of fire and the breath of life.

When you are done, of course, there is only one natural response: gratitude to earth, water, fire and air, and a heightened awareness of how these elements support you from day to day.

Take time every day to infuse yourself with light, healing and spirit. Ask for the blessing of the essential elements. Remember how it felt to drink that infusion. You don’t have to make an herbal preparation every time, but it’s good to remember that throughout the winter the herbs are especially strengthening and protective.

Your breath infuses you with life from moment to moment. Every day you can take time to breath in light and color, to infuse yourself with those healing and strengthening energies.

Imagine the colors of the rainbow, breathe them in, and repeat words to yourself that feel strengthening: love, joy, peace, harmony, balance, flow.

Breathe in the vibration of the word, feel the energy of that word go to every corner of your being. Become infused with the energy of the word.

When you walk out your door in the morning infused with strength, life, and light, you are much better prepared to meet your day.

May all beings be happy, peaceful and free of suffering.
