A message from Awareness:

If you live in a place where there is a change of seasons, no matter how slight, where the change is almost subliminal, or where the change is bright and intense, with dramatic changes of color and light, with growing dark, wherever you are, October is a month to honor the change, the shift in equilibrium, with the color and light of the change, whether it is from summer to winter in the northern hemisphere, or winter to summer in the south, the light changes, color comes and goes, brightens or fades. It is a time to be outside, with the color, light and beauty of the change, and then, if you are in the north, to come home one day in the twilight and sit with the growing dark, the deepening of the night.

You can do this towards the end of the month, near Samhain, what is now called Halloween, that time when the veil between worlds is supposed to thin, become permeable. Light a candle and sit quietly, perhaps with others, perhaps alone, and bring a question to the radiant dark, to the time and season of dream, to your inner vision.

That question might be: what do I let go of now? What am I moving towards? Sit still and do not try to answer the question. See what feelings, thoughts, images arise, what comes to you. Let your dream float up from the deep level of your being. Ask this question before you go to sleep at night; just there in the space between waking and dreaming is what we can call the waking dream, the time of knowing, the threshold between worlds, where the veil is lifted.

October is a month to go into the forest and spend time under a tree. Because that veil is thin, you can feel the presence of spirit everywhere around you. You can communicate to that tree, and it will communicate with you. You can sit under the sky and let it communicate to you. It is a time to feel the presence of the ancestors, the grandmothers and grandfathers of spirit, all those beings of wisdom and light that guide humans in their lives on earth. Some people call them angels, some people call them sprit, some people call them deities or saints or guides, some people don’t call them anything; they just experience a sense of presence, and define it as inner knowing, higher self. Whatever word you have for that which is greater than yourself, this month is a good time to connect with it.

People may ask, with all that is going on in the world, how can I take time to sit under a tree and communicate with it? It seems fanciful, frivolous and selfish. You don’t have to sit under a tree. What you do have to do in today’s out of balance world is find ways to connect with that which is greater than yourself, that which gives you a sense of meaning, connection and balance, that helps you and supports you in dealing with all the difficult issues of this difficult world, and helps you help others to do so.

So, it doesn’t have to be a tree. But it could be a tree. It could be as simple as that. In this complex world, people look for increasingly complex help, various machines, modalities and technologies. In today’s world people do need a lot of help balancing and harmonizing their energies. However, there are still trees, and rocks, and water and sky. All of these connect you to that which is greater than yourself, take you out of your ordinary human consciousness, if you take time to honor their presence.

Autumn is the season of the tree. If you live in a place where the leaves turn, how can you not take time to experience their beauty, receive their energy, learn the wisdom of the falling leaf, and honor their turning?

May all beings be happy, peaceful and free of suffering.
